We move through systems all day—housing, water, food, transportation—yet almost never see them whole. This essay asks what changes the moment a hidden system becomes visible, and who becomes responsible once it does.

Learning Objectives
Students will:

Lesson Outline (40 minutes)
1. Opening Prompt (5 min) Ask students: “What systems affect your daily life that you’ve never actually seen as a whole?”
2. Mini-Lecture (10 min) Introduce:
- Interrelatedness
- Institutional blind spots
- Mapping as a tool for visibility
Use examples from the essay (land ownership, ecology, moral responsibility).
3. Group Activity: Mapping the Invisible (15 min) In small groups, students choose a system (school lunch, housing, water, transportation). They list:
- Components
- Who controls each part
- What consequences might be invisible
4. Discussion (7 min) Which connections surprised you? Which consequences were easiest to miss?
5. Exit Reflection (3 min) One sentence: “What changes when a system becomes visible?”
